Yea, we made it. How are you? Did you think 2016 was never going to end? I hope that you are doing okay. There’s been a lot of anxiety in the air over the election and the number of our celebrities that passed away. I’ve been listening to Mac McCaughan’s cool, new song, “Happy New Year (Prince Can’t Die Again), and I think that Mac has nailed it. Check it out over at Bandcamp.
I hope that you are doing okay. The apprehension that I’m hearing from people in my practice reminds me of the immediate aftermath of September 11th, 2001. The unimaginable had happened and we didn’t know what was going to happen next. But we ended up getting through it all and I’m confident that we’ll get through the next four years. We are a resilient and hardy bunch, we just have to keep moving.
So what were your resolutions for this year? Eat better? Exercise more? I thought I’d work on being timelier, starting tomorrow. How about taking care of yourself on all levels – physically, intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally. Therapy is an area where you can address all of those things.
I know what you’re thinking, “I don’t want my family to know that I’m in therapy.” My reply to that is “Hey! Maybe your family is exactly why you need to be in therapy.” You could say, “But I have my friends to talk to, so I don’t need therapy.” Again, my answer is “Hey! Maybe your friends are exactly the reason you need to be in therapy.” The thing is that a lot of people try to screw with your head – telling you what you should or shouldn’t do. Counseling is about talking through all of that and figuring out what your own truth is. In other words – Screw With Your Head. Don’t let everyone else have all the fun.
